This article seems pretty skeptical of the meters, and for obvious reasons. From a purely profit side of it, I wonder if people are more or less likely to give to a meter - something that is very non-personal and mechanical - rather than giving to a real person. Does the Salvation Army Christmas bell technique work? Or is this the future of charity - giving to a robot (basically)?
