"Crazy: A father's search through america's mental health madness" is a great book to read if you are interested in the topic mentioned at the end of the article about mental illness leading to poverty. The book is a really great study of the issues surrounding programs (or rather, lack of programs--private and public) set up to help people with mental illnesses through life. It really goes into the cycle of imprisonment many people with mental illness (esp. people with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder) face. I have a copy somewhere if anyone is interested.
